Bilbao will be the European capital of rubgy on May 11 and 12, 2018, hosting the Champions and Challenge finals, the two top continental club competitions, in San Mamés stadium.
History will be made in 2018 when the European professional club rugby finals are played in Spain for the first time. Bilbao‘s magnificent San Mamés Stadium will open its doors to the showpiece matches with the Challenge Cup final taking place on Friday, 11 May (kick-off 21.00 local time) and the Champions Cup decider scheduled for Saturday, 12 May (kick-off 17.45 local time)
The Continental Shield final will also take place in the Basque city as the expansion of the sport into new and emerging markets across Europe gathers pace. The recently-renovated arena is the home of soccer’s Athletic Club and will host matches at the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament. The strength of the Bilbao bid was bolstered by a collaborative approach between a number of local and regional stakeholders.
